Slashdot has been my “start” page/site in innumerable browsers on innumerable machines for a very long time now.
Admittedly, it’s not what it once was back in the CmdrTaco days. There was a time when I thought of it as being the heir to the edgy, this-second cyberpunk news position that WIRED magazine held in the Louis Rossetto days of its founding, and maybe Mondo 2000 before that. It had a definite Linux/OSS bias that was welcomed during the heaviest period of Windows oppression. Now it’s much more reserved, corporate, and less exciting… but it’s still “news for nerds, stuff that matters”, even if they don’t say so.
