Name a single brand of clothing (not line) that is for men only.
One.
Just one.
Take your time.
There are literally thousands, probably tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of lines of clothing for women only. Nobody thinks of excluding men’s clothing entirely from any brand as an issue, and I’m not saying it should be… if the reverse were also true.
In many years, the only possible candidates I’ve come across that have survived are a very few brands that sell only high-end men’s suits and nothing else. Hickey-Freeman. Oxxford.
I’ve seen a few brands of clothing for men-only appear over the decades, and no doubt there are one or two in the process now, but all of them, without exception, have either folded or added women’s clothing within a few years.
Some of the brands of men’s-only clothing that I’ve seen appear over the years have been creepily feminine, they’re trying to market men’s clothing exactly as they market women’s clothing with all attention on the cosmetic qualities and no mention of utilitarian qualities, and it comes across almost as a parody. We’re deep into “man bun” and “man purse” territory here. Though they made a point of saying that they were for men, there was nothing the least bit masculine about them.
Even brands that were only for men for generations, like Filson (famous for making clothes that look like they were intended for 1930’s lumberjacks) or Brooks Brothers (famous for boxy-cut suits) have now capitulated and added women’s clothing. We won’t even mention the horrible fate of Abercrombie & Fitch, which was once, in its much better past, the go-to place to completely outfit your safari. Seriously.
No lines of casual clothes just for men, no lines of work/utilitarian clothes just for men, no lines of outdoor clothing or exercise clothing, western wear, motorcycle jackets… anything.
It can’t be that there’s no market, it’s often cited that men actually spend more on their clothes than women.
Is it that the companies are afraid?
