Why is it perfectly acceptable for millions of women to state openly and proudly that they’re voting for a woman just because she’s a woman, but anyone who said publicly that they were voting for a man just because he’s a man would be publicly crucified for it?

If it’s ugly sexist bigotry in one direction, why not the other?

If every other president we’d had so far had been a woman, you’d have a point.

I’m not unsympathetic, but IMHO the principle that you’re advocating is just wrong, no matter how widely it is currently applied and applauded in our society.

It’s basically what your parents or grandparents probably said, that parents have been saying for generations, “two wrongs don’t make a right”. Reversing the direction of discrimination, or bigotry, or injustice does not correct for or reduce previous discrimination, bigotry or injustice, because the past cannot be changed. All it does is add to the total of discrimination, bigotry and injustice and perpetuates the divisions and resentments for still more generations.

Think about what you’d want our society to look like, to be in, say, 200 or 500 years, and ask yourself if endlessly correcting for injustices back and forth forever, always victimizing members of new generations for what was done by the older ones, really seems like the way to get there.
